Surrey Heath Borough Council: Retail Planning Advice

Client: Surrey Heath Borough Council

Instruction: Retail Study

Chase & Partners have advised Surrey Heath Borough Council since 2006 when we were instructed to prepare a robust retail study for the Borough. This examined the issues of the health, vitality and viability of Camberley town centre, provided advice on how to maintain and improve this, and looked at the quantitative need for further floorspace. Since then, Chase & Partners have continued to advise on retail planning matters as the Council’s LDF has advanced.

Camberley town centre is recognised as having great potential for expansion and improvement and we have advised on how the LDF can support and facilitate this. Key to this is not only the pure retail planning consideration of quantitative need, but also commerical awareness of what the market will actually deliver in terms of further retail floorspace. To address this issue we have brought in our In-town agency team and development specialists to provide comprehensive advice on how the LDF should progress.

In 2010, Chase & Partners also provided advice on the potential retail needs arising from the proposed redevelopment of the Princess Royal Barracks at Deepcut which has been identified as a strategic location for new housing development in the Council’s emerging Local Development Framework.
